Commercial banks in India - These financial institutions  provide short-term loan to particularly to commerce and industry. hence they are called commercial banks. they mobilize saving by accepting different type of deposits , savings, fixed recurring etc. these deposits are repayable to customers on demand. hence these banks grant loans only for short periods to trade, commerce and industry. they thus act as financial intermediaries between saving public and investors. commercial banks in India render agency and general utility services to customers. the State bank of india and its subsidies . There is large list of commercial institutions  in India but few example - UTI, ICICI, Punjab National Bank.

Commercial banks history in india 

The first bank came into being is the Hindustan bank in 1770. its marks the beginning of commercial banking in inda.  
later 3 presidency banks one each at Calcutta (1806) Bombay ( 1840) and madras 1843 were established. they were given the right issue of currency notes. during 1860 to 1900 major joint stock banks lie Punjab national bank, Allahabad
Bank by the end 3 presidency banks 9 joint stock banks and 8 exchange banks were functioning in India
